Post subject:  Cocobolo Build Finished , Two Videos of her sound

I have been working on a Cocobolo Build for my Daughter , she knows nothing about . I thought I would post several pic's of my build thus far to bring it up to speed . I am about to start fitting this top to the sides . The top is quite stiff , so I have reduced the bracing inside somewhat and have room for sanding the top around the bridge and lower bout from the soundhole down . Basically from the sound hole down and out the top will be getting thinner than the upper bout. This will have Pink Ivory accents .

Seems like within the last week I've run into at least three threads posted by guys building really cool guitars for their daughters. Well, that's great! If I had a daughter, I'd probably be doing the same thing!

Wud, from over here, it sure looks like you've made a heckuva start on it. Keep us posted.
(If your daughter knows nothing about this gift in the making, she is obviously not a correspondent on our forum!)

Your work looks really nice and clean. [clap] If you don't mind me saying, it's probably not my place, but your braces look pretty big? Front & Back. idunno Clinton

Thank you

No problem , I appreciate the feedback
Its a bit of a deception with the camera . they are not that big really . The x brace may have some room for more carving , but the finger braces are only about 3/8" tall at the highest point and they are 1/4" thick .. The scalloped braces at the lower bout are 1/2" tall at the peaks . If you look at the Transverse braces at the top , at 7/8"x 5/16" thick it give you a better idea of the actual size of the braces . I am going to tap tune this one and see where Im at before gluing it to the sides .

Applying a bit of the Pink Ivory . I think the PI and Coco are gonna be good together .

Looking good Wud! [:Y:]

The soundhole looks a bit small though....probably just an optical illusion due to the camera lens....

Cheers,
Dave F.

Thanks

No , actually it is smaller than I really wanted , its 3-3/4" . I am contemplating putting a side port in as well .

Nice work, Wud! Nothing better than making a guitar for your kid. I surprised my daughter with one a couple of years ago. I wish she'd get serious about playing it, as she is quite musical and has a lovely voice. Oh well, maybe she'll catch the bug one of these days.

I didn't quite make my Christmas morning deadline:

Looking good, Wud. Is that surgical tubing for the binding? If yes, how long a piece is enough to bind a guitar in one run?

No , Its the Binding rubberbands from Stew Mac . easier to use in my opinion , because you dont have to maintain the pull through the whole process .

Thanks for the post and all the pictures. This is really helpful for a beginner like me; always good to see the process. I'm sure your daughter will love it.
